Oh dear god
Posted by Dave in Uncategorized, tags: Credit Checks, pointless credit checksAs regular readers of this blog know, I am becoming extremely worried about the “computer says no” mentality this nation is adopting. One of the worse problems we have of this is with mobile phone contracts, where the network gives a free incentive to sign up to them for a stupid length of time and as a result of this runs a credit check to make sure that you aren’t likely to just run off with the free phone and not pay the bill.
Broadband suppliers seem to be moving towards this now with two major broadband providers now offering free laptop PCs to people who sign up to their service for 2 years (yes TWO YEARS!). Again as a result of this they now credit check potential applicants with a computer having the final say so on whether you can get broadband or not.
Frankly, we are starting to get to a very worrying state of affairs. How long is it before other service providers start to credit check you because they are giving you a free gift to try and entice you to use their service. In the future are we going to have:
1. Restaurants giving free dining tables and chairs to customers to entice them in. Result being a computer decides if you can eat
2. Bus companies giving free cars to their passengers. Result being a computer decides if you can travel
3. Water companies giving a free sink to their customers. Result being a computer decides if you can drink water
4. Electric companies giving a free TV to their customers. Result being a computer decides if you get electricity to your home
5. Free bathroom suite with every purchase of a toilet seat. Result being a computer decides if you can have a shit
A very worrying state of affairs!
