For the last few months we have had a nightmare time trying to get Stuart down to sleep. The problem started when he discovered he could stand himself up in his cot. Since then we have had to settle him ourselves either in the living room or in our bed.

However thanks to a sleep clinic sign that I saw in the Doctors we think we have cracked it. Been attending the sleep clinic for 2 weeks and they told us to put him in bed, leave him 5 mins then go check on him and put him back in a lying down position.

The first night was indeed horrendous and it took two and a half hours of this to settle him. However that time has been dropping and last night and tonight, he has gone straight to sleep!

Last night he woke up in the night at an unknown time but we’ve got one problem solved. The middle of night problem is going to be harder, especially with the dickhead upstairs banging on the ceiling when Stuart is crying in middle of night. It’s ok for him to make enough noise to have 6 stereos taken away by environmental health but woe betide us for trying to solve our son’s sleep disorder that was probably caused by the excessive noise from upstairs anyway!

I really have seen it all now. A 47 year old Grandmother was refused service for a bottle of wine in a supermarket and when her daughter showed ID she was refused service in case she gave it to her mother. Utter utter madness!!

This is the first post I have ever made on this blog where I have placed a restriction on who can and can’t read it (in this case the only person who can read it is myself). Prior to today there simply hasn’t been a need however there are some things I will be saying in this post which are likely to upset certain people and cause unneeded aggravation.

On the whole Stuart’s first birthday party was a successful event. However saying that there were a couple of serious problems.

1. Whilst the event was well attended, a few members of Stuart’s immediate family couldn’t make the effort to attend with one thinking the timing of the event should fit around his schedule as opposed to when Stuart was actually born. Even worse 3 people cancelled at the last minute meaning the table we had booked for 10 people was actually only taken by 7.

2. One person while they did bother to turn up, the second their significant other (and I use the term significant sparingly given they are shagging someone else while with him) turned up they suddenly vanished meaning we spent the rest of the night trying to find her so we could get on with things like the birthday cake

Other than these two minor blips I’m pleased to say the event was a success and some pics will follow when I can be bothered

EDIT This post has been published now following post on main blog about Stuart’s second birthday
