Been spending the last few days arranging connection of a BT line and installation of Sky. We’ve been with Virgin Media for 2 and a half years but over the last few weeks become very disillusioned with their customer services and their ability to abide by the terms of our contract.

So we are switching our phone to BT, one that’s installed we’ll be getting O2 broadband and our TV is switching over to Sky. On the plus side this is costing £10 less a month than the equivalent package was on Virgin Media and also splits our bill into 3 smaller more managable chunks.

So those are the three planned switches so which one is unplanned. Well just after Christmas we went on a comparison site and scottish power came out cheaper than our current deal on British Gas. So we applied to switch. Get the paperwork from Scottish Power and actually it turns out more expensive so I call them to cancel which I am assured they will do. Did they?

Did they balls? Get a letter today confirming my gas switch on 11th Feb along with a prepayment card. So our supply has been slammed. Complaint to Scottish Power and BBC Watchdog sent!

Just had a reply from my e-mail sent to the chief executive of virgin media, Neil Berkett about the reduction in VAT. I am pleased to say that they will be passing the reduction onto their customer base.

His e-mail to me was as follows:

Yes we will be reducing the VAT rate for all our customers from December 1st (per the pre budget) This may include the use of credits in the first instance as we prebill for some charges. As you can imagine this is not a trivial exercise and we are working on the exact actions as we speak!

Well least they will be on 17th May 2007. After a lot of thought finally decided to get a V+ box.

Been considering it because virgin refunded the £100 deposit we had to pay when we signed up but did it as a bill credit so we get just over 2 free months now. Been after either a DVD recorder or a PVR so this kind of makes sense (plus we keep missing programmes and when we do miss them they don’t show up on catch up TV on demand)

Means we now pay £45.20 a month and get

Phone size L (free evenings and weekends to landlines) with caller display
Broadband size L (4Mb…. though if they’re upping the speed of size XL to 20Mb hopefully size L will get upped eventually)
TV Size XL with V+ Box

Got a free install on the V+ as well (when it’s meant to be £75 for existing customers who don’t take a second box) so pretty happy there too!
